How To Hide Your IP

Chatroulette is not anonymous! Every time that it tries to connect you to a new user you’re giving out data that is easily grabbed like your IP + hostname. With this data you’re not only giving out a calling card that can be reported to your internet provider as spam, but also can lead to some pretty embarassing mashups that will tell the worls how you’ve been using your free time. Because your browser will be connecting over UDP, you’ll need to use at least a socks5 proxy if you’d like to have any hopes of keeping your identity/location a secret. That pretty much means most of those ‘free proxies’ that you’ll find won’t cut it as they’re either way too slow for video streaming, could already be banned from previous abusers and you’re always running the risk of connecting to a honeypot or maliciously modified host.

Your best bet is to go with any of the ultra-cheap VPN services out there as it’ll route all your traffic through multiple methods of masking your network connection. Normally if you’re signing up for a VPN account you’d look for one that will assign you your own IP address on the cheap, however for our use we actually want to look for the opposite. You’ll want to sign-up for an account that let’s you swap out/change your assigned IP whenever you want (at least 2-3 times each month just in case). This way if it get’s banned you can easily change it to a fresh one and get back to trolling the site for boobs.

I recommend using StrongVPN as they’re the only host I’ve found that let’s you change up the location of your IP when you request a new one (I’ve had a VPN account with them for years). That means you can change what part of the US you’re claiming to be from just as easily as you can change what country. With 10 countries available to choose from you can pretend like you’re anywhere on the globe. That feature also comes in handy when connecting to applications like spotify that aren’t available in every country. Now you can fool them into thinking you’re just down the street with a click of your mouse.

They’re also pretty damn cheap…
